AmCham Russia chief puts US business losses from sanctions at $200 billion
US businesses have lost about $200 billion over four years of harsh sanctions against Russia, Robert Agee, president and chief executive of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham Russia), said in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency.
"American business is genuinely suffering badly because of the anti-Russian sanctions — in the past four years alone it has lost about $200 billion," Agee said.
Western businesses did not want to leave the Russian market, which was and remains attractive, stable and fast-growing, he said, adding that Russia offers good prospects for developing ties with the countries of Central Asia.
"That is why it has always been so important for American companies to localise production in Russia, to build plants and factories in your country. One of our member companies, for example, today has 12 facilities of its own in Russia, spread across different regions," Agee said.
In June, AmCham Russia said it had set up an "advisory unit" to handle enquiries from foreign companies about a potential return to the Russian market.
