VSMPO-Avisma Shares Surge on Speculation Boeing May Resume Titanium Purchases from Russia
The market capitalisation of VSMPO-Avisma, one of the world’s largest producers of titanium products, rose by 30% over the course of a week (as of 21 February), amid reports that Boeing may resume purchases of Russian titanium. The share price reached 40,500 roubles per share, and briefly exceeded 42,000 roubles on 20 and 21 February. The company’s market capitalisation rose to 467.86 billion roubles.
The surge in stock price followed the start of negotiations between the United States and Russia, as well as Telegram channel Shot's reports that Boeing planned to resume purchases of Russian titanium and supply equipment to Russia. These reports have not been officially confirmed. On 21 February, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov stated that the government had not received any proposals regarding the return of Boeing aircraft to Russia, but noted that the country is open to considering cooperation with the company.
