New owner of Heineken's Russian business repays debt to Heineken
Arnest Group, which bought Dutch brewer Heineken's Russian business in 2023, has made the final RUB 11 billion repayment of its debt to the Dutch company, RBC has learned from Anna Mironova, CEO of United Breweries (Heineken's former Russian subsidiary).
She reported that RUB 17 billion had been spent on upgrading production facilities, and "another RUB 11 billion went last year to repay the debt to Heineken". "The debt has been repaid in full, and this is a great achievement," Mironova said.
Heineken announced the sale of its Russian business to Arnest in August 2023. The Dutch concern sold the company, which operated seven breweries, for €1 plus the new owner's obligation to repay the €100 million debt of Heineken's Russian division to the parent company. The deal did not provide for a buy-back option.
On leaving Russia, Heineken took the most profitable international brands, including the flagship Heineken brand, from the portfolio of the Russian subsidiary. Other brands are leaving gradually: after the sale of the Russian business, Heineken granted the rights for United Breweries to produce three brands with names in Russian (Krusovice, Gesser, and Edelweiss) under licence for another three years.
